Welcome to my blog.
Not much is happening yet, I'm working on content at the moment... so I will attempt to introduce myself properly in the meantime:
I'm Bee, I'm a BSc Psychology with Counselling Student, currently volunteering as a mentor. I take my studies very seriously and additionally I read philosophy, history, anything and everything to do with sex and LGBTQIA+ issues.
I'm also currently learning Scottish Gaelic: a decision I made when reading about Pictish history.
I'm a Caucasian Scottish person and I've recently found myself more interested in our heritage - this could be due to challenges I've been given whilst studying the counselling elements of my degree, which in facing topics such as ethnicity and culture has been raised as important because others have different backgrounds and I want to be as open and aware as possible, because a good therapist will know themselves well enough to be able to explore other people too. Ethnicity and the topic of 'race' interest me greatly, so this is something I may feature. I am a staunch anti-racist, and I'm working on my knowledge and awareness of cultural, racial and ethnic topics all the time because as Hurvitz (1973) argued 'psychotherapy has a latent purpose in accord with the values of ...capitalist society. To control... and bring people in line [with the usually white and middle-class] status quo, quelling defiance, rebellion or cultural diversity.' ...And frankly, I'd like to see changes in that regard because diversity is important.
I'm a cis-gendered female (pronouns: she/her and they/them), sexuality I'd describe as 'queer' because it's way more complicated than that, and we'd be here all day otherwise! I love reading, music and the creative arts in general and I'd love to pursue playing an instrument at some stage, although I've been told my singing voice could wake the dead - so perhaps a stringed instrument! I'm also a mother to two children (but I won't discuss much to do with parenting because there are plenty of blogs for that and they are not interested in a social media presence, so I will respect their wishes).
People would describe me as friendly, complex, thoughtful and a perfectionist. But I'd call myself a whirlwind of chaos - and I mean that in a good way - who is fascinated by the world. I have a child like wonder for things I have not learned yet, and I always welcome the opportunity to learn something new or have my perspectives changed.
What will my blog be about?
Anything and everything really. I refuse to adhere to one topic, its limiting. So all I'll say is, sift through the titles and follow what interests you.
Possible future topics will include:
A myriad of social issues (psychology major!)
Aspects of identity.
Philosophy I've read.
Gaelic - the spelling and language rules are ...interesting!
LGBTQIA+ and kink.
Music, TV and film.
At the minute, that's all I've got, so I'll sign off.
Ciao!
Bee x
A personal blog.
